Autumn Re-Balance

WOCY Blog Autumn Re-Balance.png

With the Equinox today, astrological Autumn has arrived!

It's the time when the mornings are crisper and cooler, the wind is picking up.

Autumn marks a time for…

TRANSITION

TRANSFORMATION,

And maybe even

SADNESS, and

GRIEF,

as the summer and long summer days fade away.

Autumn Symptoms

Autumn is a time when our lungs and large intestines are more vulnerable. Have you experienced any of these symptoms of Autumn?

  • Shallow breathing

  • Runny nose

  • Hoarse voice

  • Sluggish digestive system

I certainly have!

Autumnal Elements

This is the season when the air element is hard at work, creating these imbalances. (In the sister science of yoga, Ayurveda, the Air Element is called Vata.)

This is the time nature tells us to slow down, to expend less energy...

... to reflect...

... to allow change to flow with ease.

Like the trees which shed their leaves, this is the time for us to shed and release the old – emotions, so, actions, behaviours, relationships that don't help us to grow.

Autumn Boost

Instead, we need to rest, recharge and allow growth to take place within us, as it does when we sleep.

This is a time when we need to nurture and nourish ourselves. We need to eat warm, cooked foods, especially root vegetables that connect us with the earth.

We need to maintain a regular routine of sleep, moderate exercise and meal times. This all helps to ground us, to counteract the imbalances created by the air element, Vata.

Through Yoga, we can also help this release, this detoxification to take place with:

  • Twisting poses, for example, Half Lord of the Fishes Seated Twist, Revolved Triangle

  • Side bends, for example, Revolved Head to Knee Pose, Side Angle Pose, Triangle, and

  • Backbends, for example, Bow Pose, Bridge and Camel

Then, we can ground ourselves, re balance ourselves through strong, powerful standing poses and balances, for example Warrior I, Warrior II, Tree and Eagle Pose.

Wishing you well as you Transition and Transform through Autumn.

Love always
