Yoga - Learning & Development

The world is a complex package, with layers and layers of connections. Through World of Children's Yoga (WOCY) online and live classes, you can any of the connections that resonate with you. We are all unique and you may find that each member of our family learns something different, feels something different from each WOCY interaction.

Learning is my passion...whether it is pursuing changing careers and interests or haring my learning with others, I believe, through learning we grow and there is no limit to our growth. Learning isn't one dimensional, it's not just the pursuit of academic knowledge. When we continue to be curious in our pursuit of learning, we learn about ourselves, we learn about others, we learn about relationships, were learning about connections, all of which I'm excited to see children are started to be exposed to and taught in schools.

The source of our learning and development starts with learning about ourselves on a multitude of levels. It's about the development of inner knowledge, awareness and confidence of who you are, your strengths. The other side of this inner knowledge development is about accepting those aspects of you that make you human, those emotions and feelings you have that aren't always rational.

To be honest with yourself, to bring your inner knowledge of who you are to your conscious awareness, understanding your body-mind link offers a route to self-discovery. This is where yoga has a role to play.

Our bodies are truthful...when a stretch or a balance, or a twist feels uncomfortable, are you trying too hard today? Do you need to stop trying so hard? Is your ego, your competitive nature stopping you from being kind to yourself, stopping you from understanding yourself? Where are any discomforts, aches and pains coming from? What experiences and/or thoughts are you unwilling or not keen to recognise, what are you not letting go of?

If there is discomfort, take a moment or a few moments, ease out of the pose and pause to reflect. You can even reflect some more after your yoga class. In these reflections, notice any feelings and emotions. What do you want to accept? What do you want to let go of so they no longer cause you discomfort or pain? Even if you don't know what feeling you may have locked inside you, acknowledge you have a feeling and let it go. You may even want to consult my favourite oracle, Louise M Hay's, Heal your Body to more fully understand your negative thought patterns and feelings. Without this release, these feelings will continue to fester within you...I know this from personal challenges and health issues I face, both big and small each and every day.

So, trust in your body-mind inner wisdom and your children will follow your lead. With many challenges they face, from feeling itchy, to being annoyed by bugs and insects, my 10 and 7 year olds will ask me why and what is happening to them to attract such experiences and they will listen to the simplicity of my explanations. Life is full of these simple answers - it's full of inter-connectivity and duality, light and dark, cause and effect. What greater gift to share with our children than to help and guide them in developing their own understanding of the nature of connectedness and their sense of self.

Life continues to be a journey, although it still makes me smile with love and gratitude for all I see and do.
