Aims of WOCY Classes

PERSONAL INTELLIGENCE + SOCIAL INTELLIGENCE = SPIRITUAL INTELLIGENCE

My goals through World of Children’s Yoga (WOCY) have always been about CONNECTION in three ways.

Today, I thank Tony Buzan for helping me with the short hand language I’ve been looking for to describe these connections that I think are ESSENTIAL LEARNING for us all, including Children and Families too.

These connections help us to make sense of our relationships, our place in the world, so we can learn about our purpose, why we are here.

Heavy stuff? Maybe, maybe not…here’s what these connections mean to me…

First comes PERSONAL INTELLIGENCE - Knowing Yourself.

This is about knowing, understanding and appreciating our attitudes, beliefs and values that drive our actions and behaviours.

Through WOCY classes, I encourage Children and Families to get to know and understand their bodies and how they feel during various yoga poses (asanas), breathing and relaxation practices. Through the body-mind link, we, including our children, can then better understand our preferences, our emotions that drive our behaviour.

Building on Personal Intelligence, second is SOCIAL INTELLIGENCE - Understanding Others.

This is about knowing, understanding and appreciating our relationships with others. This is about having empathy for others and our ability to understand and act on the feelings, thoughts and behaviours of others.

Through WOCY classes, I always include group or partner work, including discussions about the theme or topic of the class, which could be anything from Building Confidence to celebrating diversity by Understanding Festivals and Celebrations to Appreciating Growing and Changing Bodies. There’s also some group or partner yoga and massage which deepens understanding and connections between children, people and Families.

Building on Personal Intelligence and Social Intelligence, third is SPIRITUAL INTELLIGENCE – Connecting With the Wider World.

This is about knowing , understanding and appreciating our relationship with everything that Lives in our Wider World and the Universe. This is also about valuing our uniqueness, our individual life energy which consists of our emotions, personality and character. When we express our Spiritual Intelligence, we express the following qualities:

✨       Compassion

✨       Integrity

✨       Joy

✨       Creativity

✨       Love

✨       Peace

These are pretty much the values that underpin WOCY Classes (more on WOCY Values later). They factor in our rules for classes, to treat ourselves and others with Kindness by Listening showing and Respect. They factor in the themes and topics of classes that encourage self-love and appreciation, gratitude for all we have, as well as developing our understanding of others.

Spiritual Intelligence is what we’re looking for when we’re looking for meaning in life that’s more than the material. Spiritual Intelligence is what more and more of us are looking for when we’re thinking about the meaning of life.

Spiritual Intelligence is something you can absolutely nurture in your children and practise as a family…more on that later too!

Have fun on your journey….

Love Always
